Valerie Still -- While playing for the University of Kentucky, Valerie Still was the school’s all-time leading scorer (female or male) with 2,763 points, all-time leading rebounder (1,525), and 3-time All-American. In 1983, she went on to play pro ball in Italy for the next 12 years. She led her team to the Italian National Championship in 1990-91, led the league in scoring, four times, and was an 8-time All Star. She retired in 1994. In 1996, Still was inducted into the Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame, the same year the American Basketball League was formed. At the age of 35, she came out of retirement to play pro ball again, and led the Columbus Quest to win the ABL’s first World Championship. Valerie was named "Most Valuable Player" of the tournament. She continued her winning ways by repeating that same feat in 1998 and was also named one of the top ten players in the ABL that year. She was a member of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) Player's Advisory Council in 2000. Valerie was also a player for the Washington Mystics and went on to be an Assistant Coach for the same team.

 

 

Nancy McDonald -- Has been acting professionally since the age of 16, starring in over 60 classical and contemporary plays, musicals, and cabarets in the New York, Hollywood and other venues. TV and film work includes All My Children, One Life to Live, Bonfire of the Vanities, several independent films and many national and regional commercials. Graduating summa cum laude with a degree in theatre from Ohio’s Wright State University, she studied professionally in New York with Larry Moss, and in England at the London Shakespeare Studio. She was a founding member and producer of the Shakespeare Stage Company in New York and in Hollywood, co-founded The Writer’s Lab, producing and directing staged readings and workshops on everything from Shakespeare to improvisational comedy. Nancy has taught seminars at various universities across the country, and has coached privately through Actors Advantage, LA. Her two-woman show, In a Woman's Soul, toured throughout the Midwest and she won a Hermes award as a writer and producer for WI-ITO-TV, Dayton.

Arnett Howard -- Since 1985 has performed over three thousand concerts to a variety of audiences in Central Ohio and throughout the world. He is an active community servant and official ambassador of Columbus. Arnett enjoys a fresh adventure each day and is musical historian to Columbus (co-authored Listen For the Jazz: Keynotes in Columbus History) and Ohio. Arnett began as a professional musician in 1967 and is the composer of 10 recordings, 3 compact discs and the famed NBC’s Channel 4, promo, "Football Friday Night". He was educated at Jonathan Alder High School, Capital University and Leadership Columbus. One of Arnett’s goals in 1999 is to spearhead a jazz tour throughout Ohio to honor those families of musicians who deserve to be in the Ohio Hall of Fame. He wants to lead thousands of children past the images and artifacts of Ohio’s jazz culture to inspire them to begin working towards the next generation of musical greatness. "I want to fill the air with love and achieve peace through music", says Arnett.

 

 

Wendi Huntley -- A native of Toledo, Ohio, Wendi Huntley received her law degree from OSU in 1991. This 33 year old woman has a special blend of ambition and a willingness to do the hard work to bring about the goals she has set for herself. Wendi is an associate at the Bricker & Eckler law firm where she has set some lofty goals for herself, in a profession that gets increasingly competitive everyday. Wendi, along with fellow attorney, T. Earl Levere of Bricker & Eckler developed a new entertainment practice in 1995 which has earn the same respect as the corporate or litigation departments. When she joined Bricker & Eckler in 1991, the attorney represented entertainers on her off-hours. However, once the business began to take off, she took the work to the office. She represents clients whose lives reflect the "hip-hop" counterculture as well as some who do not: Eboni, a group that toured with Salt-N-Pepa: Phared Whitted, a solo trumpeter who signed with the MoJazz label, a division of Motown. One has completed two albums and another act, Heart and Soul, is close to signing a record deal.

Wendi also is a pioneer as an agent of female professional basketball players in the fledging women’s professional basketball league, the WNBA. Some of her clients include three players from the American Basketball League two-time World Champions, Columbus Quest, Valerie Still, Tonya Edwards and Sonja Tate. Edna Campbell, a member of the 1998 USA National Gold Medal Team also uses her services. 

The entertainment business is only about 35 percent of what Wendi does at Bricker & Eckler. She is also a civil litigation, assists clients with the creation of charitable and corporate entities and works in the areas of intellectual property, product liability and breach of warranty law.

Tiffany "Lady" Logan -- Is one female with a career that is on the move. With a 10-0 record (9 wins by TKO), two national boxing belts and Women's Light Heavyweight Boxing Champion, Lady Logan is just getting started. Tiffany is a 1986 graduate from Marion Franklin High School in Columbus Ohio and the mother of two children, a daughter Chelsa, 10 and a son, Stevie, 6. Tiffany’s interest in boxing started in 1996 after attending a local boxing match at the Ohio State Fair Grounds. She started working out with JAB Productions at the Blackburn Recreation Center where she also worked as a lifeguard for six years. She won her first title (the ABL Belt) in February 1997 at the first Women’s National Golden Gloves Championship Boxing Tournament in Augusta, Georgia and at the same time made history becoming the first female Golden Glove Heavy weight Champion. In February 1998, she made her first television appearance on the Toughwomen’s Championship Boxing Contest Pay-Per-View event and won the IFBA World Toughwomen Championship belt and $10,000 in prize money. 

While she is not in the gym working out or taking time out with her kids, she spends her time speaking to juvenile youth groups at TICO and the Circleville Youth Center.   She is currently ranked by the National Boxing Association as the I~1 Female Heavyweight contender.

 

 

April Brooks -- April Brooks was born and raised in Cadiz, Ohio. She graduated from Belmont JVS in 1983 with her degree in Cosmetology. April went on to the Columbus Business College in1985. To further her training in the hair industry, she attended Ohio State Barber College from 1985 to 1986. April began her career at Charles Penzone’s in 1986. She became a Senior Director in 1996, and has since become the number one Designer in the company. April has attended many hands-on educational seminars ranging from Vidal Sassoon to Paul Mitchell. She is involved with the Charles Penzone’s Associate Training Program. She leads our associates with hands-on education and training with our retail lines. April is a mentor to our associates with her commitment to excellence and the Charles Penzone Company.

Kathy Cassandra -- Kathy, RN/ BSN/ MS. is a creative, organized professional with an energetic, enthusiastic ability to positively motivate others, offering strong ability m many areas. At Children’s Hospital, Inc., Kathy served as Education Nurse Specialist. She assessed educational needs of all levels of nursing staff. Developed, implemented and evaluated orientation, in-service and continuing education programs for staff. Administered continuing nursing education (CNE) program through Ohio Nurses Association and Ohio Board of Nursing. As an Assistant Professor at Capital University, she served as clinical instructor for senior students in management/leadership course and conducted weekly seminars on relevant issues related to professional nursing practice. She worked at Kingsdale Pediatrics, Inc. as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. There she provided well-child care to pediatric and adolescent patients. Managed acute minor illnesses and chronic illnesses in certain types of patients. She also conducted hospital and home visits on selected patients. Developed written patient teaching materials. Conducted patient education classes. Provided counseling to families and individuals. Collaborated with physicians, school nurses and other health care providers. Hired, educated and managed office staffs and served as Vice president of corporation. Currently, she is a Nurse Recruiter at Children’s Hospital. Inc., where on of her main functions is recruiting and hiring professional nursing staff and assistive personnel for in-patient and out-patient health care organization.

 

 

Deborah Schipper -- Deborah has a Master of Arts in Journalism and Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the Ohio State University. She is Coordinator of the Rape Education and Prevention Program at OSU. As Coordinator, she is responsible for the development, delivery and evaluation of a comprehensive program on sexual assault. She also maintains administrative reports, compiles program data, administers a budget and supervises students. Deborah is also a self-defense Instructor. She has conducted five and eight week self-defense courses for women for the OSU Rape Education and Prevention Program, Women Against Rape, and many colleges in Ohio. She develops the curriculum for these courses, which includes training in mental, verbal and physical self-defense techniques. She also teaches self-defense course at the Columbus School for Girls. In addition to these on-going classes, she presents one to four hour workshops to special populations in Columbus, including adults with developmental disabilities and multiple sclerosis, and children aged five to eighteen. As Consultant to The National Child Assault Prevention Project, Deborah was responsible for the training of community groups statewide, nationally and in Canada, to implement a Child Assault Prevention Project. Additional duties included: providing technical assistance to existing projects; providing training for trainers; primary facilitating and role playing in CAP workshops presented locally; providing crisis intervention services for children and adults; providing in-service programs for parents and teachers and staff of local schools. After eight years of study, she attained her First Dan Rank in Tae Kwon Do, a Korean martial art, in 1988. She currently is a student at the Wah Lum Kung Fu and Tai Chi School in Reynoldsburg, Ohio, and lifetime member of the National Women’s Martial Arts Federation.
